On November 1, 2014, there will be a screening at the Tolbooth in Stirling, Scotland of a feature film, Memoirs of a Sinner, an adaptation of Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, James Hogg's most popular novel. It will be shown at the The Scottish Paranormal Festival.
The film will be screened twice on Saturday, November 1, 2014, first at 3:30 p.m. and again at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are only £5 (£4.50).
Peter Broughan, the founder and director of the festival, writes that "as an extraordinary bonus, Scotland’s greatest living polymath Alasdair Gray has kindly agreed to present a talk on why this seminal work has never been filmed in Hogg’s own country. This [talk] will take place at 5:00 p.m. after the first screening."
Note that the film is in Polish with French subtitles. Broughan explains: "We are working with the Polish Film
Archive and others towards having an
English-subtitled version made for next year’s
Festival. Until
then, & even if you don’t know French, Hogg’s
book and our special hand-
outs will help to prepare you for this unique
experience."
